Research

The Global Studies Programme (GSP) is a multidisciplinary and international research cooperation. GSP draws on faculty from various disciplines – sociology, political science, ethnology, geography, economics, environmental science – from different locations – Bangkok, Berlin, Bologna, Buenos Aires, Cape Town, Delhi, Durban, Freiburg, Santiago de Chile, and others – who bring together their expertise to research central problems of globalization.

Through a dynamic and rapidly expanding research culture, GSP provides a platform that combines social science theories and methods to conduct state-of-the-art research on globalization issues and basic social science questions. Therefore, studies employ a wide range of quantitative and qualitative research methods including survey research, focus groups, interviews and field work.

Special attention is given to the integration of master students and PhD candidates into existing research projects and the publication of student and doctorate papers. Interdisciplinary research recently conducted within the cooperation include Global Elites, Emerging Powers, Deviance, and Environmentalism.

At the University of Freiburg, current research is being displayed under the following links (in case of interest, please contact the respective researcher directly):
